Washington State requires you to have your backflow device tested by a certified backflow tester. You can now download our 2023 testers list below.
If you do not have your device tested you are subject to a $250 fine and termination of water service.
Property and business owners are required to install and maintain backflow prevention devices where they are needed. It is also required to have the backflow device tested annually by a Certified Backflow Tester.
Please reference WAC 51-56-0600 or WAC 246-290-490
A backflow device is required where there is any possibility of a cross connection between the public water system and a non-potable water source. Examples include; sprinkler systems, boilers, and other water-using equipment.
If a backflow device is not tested, Orchard Avenue must take action, starting with a $250.00 fine and termination of water service. We will make every effort to work with our patrons to avoid these actions from being taken, but we must ensure your drinking water is protected.
You can use any certified backflow tester.
The testers we have provided requested to be on our 2023 list.
Cross connections provide pathways for contaminants to enter the drinking water supply.
Backflow can happen at any time. This means contaminates can be introduced to the water system. Some contaminates are: pesticides, E. Coli, metals and more!
Anything connected to your water system can cause a cross connection.
Examples: a hose submerged in water, sprinkler systems, boilers, swimming pools, water softeners and more!
Using Orchard Avenue's fire hydrants will lead to a fine. Improper use can cause backflow due to the change in pressure.
*We have a fill station available* Please stop by the office for a permit or download one from the documents tab!
